For over twenty years, the Franco regime secretly exhumed and transferred more than 33,000 bodies from Spanish mass graves to El Valle de los Caídos (Valley of the Fallen), a mausoleum glorifying Francoism. After 80 years of silence, families are mobilizing to find their loved ones using new forensic technologies.
Manuel Correa is a Colombian artist and filmmaker based in Madrid. His work explores memory and post-conflict reconstruction in contemporary societies. Holding a master’s degree in architecture from Goldsmiths, University of London, he participated in the Forensic Architecture project, which investigates state violence using technologies employed in architecture.
