On October 27, 1962, Enrico Mattei’s plane crashed. Founder of ENI, the Italian oil company, he was the man who defied the Seven Sisters oil cartel (Exxon, Shell, BP, Mobil, Texaco, Gulf, and Chevron). The film retraces the meteoric rise of this maverick, a supporter of independence movements in colonized countries, whose audacity shook the geopolitical balance of the Cold War.
After studying Art History at Cambridge, Fiammetta Luino began her career in documentary filmmaking with British director Asif Kapadia. She collaborated with him for three years on the documentary film Diego Maradona (2019). In 2022, she graduated from the National Film and Television School, where she directed three short documentaries.
