Born under the name “International Festival for Mediterranean Documentary and Reportage”, the PriMed was created in Monte-Carlo in 1994. From 1996 until 2009, the selection of finalist works took place in Marseille at the headquarters of the CMCA and the final phase in Italy: in Palermo from 1996 to 2000, Soverato in 2002, Syracuse from 2003 to 2005, Civitavecchia in 2006, Cagliari in 2007, Turin in 2008.
Since 2009, PriMed has been organized in Marseille.
In 2013 and 2014 the selection of films was organized in Rome at the invitation of RAI, in 2015 and 2016 in Casablanca at the invitation of 2M.
