In Albania, the Burrnesha renounce their femininity to live as men, allowing them access to a freedom previously denied to them. The film chronicles their journey within a patriarchal society.
Kristine NRECAJ, born in Bavaria of Albanian descent, studied film at the Free University of Berlin. In 2003, she directed the documentary Kosowo. Her short fiction film Of Dogs and Lions (2014) won the awards for Best Director and Best Actress at the Kosovo Film Festival.
Birthee TEMPLIN is an independent filmmaker based in Berlin. After studying at the London Film Academy and the Andzrej Wajda Master School of Film Directing in Warsaw, she founded her production company Ipanema. She has directed and produced award-winning fiction and documentary films for cinema, television, museums, and educational platforms.
