Set in war-ravaged northern Syria, Who Loves the Sun immerses us in the dark, post-apocalyptic world of improvised oil refineries. Mahmood, a key figure in these operations, must navigate difficult working conditions and complex local dynamics.
Arshia Shakiba began his career directing music videos for Iranian underground rock bands before turning to documentary. He directed the short films The Guests (2018) and Who Loves the Sun (2024) and worked as a cinematographer on the documentary Rojek (PriMed 2023). He is currently working on his first feature-length documentary, Sleepless.
