The heart of one of the largest petrochemical complexes in Europe beats in Sicily. 70 years after the arrival of the first refineries, the territory and the people today seem left to their own devices. The film gives voice to voices who struggle, resign themselves or survive within a sacrificed and polluted territory at sea and on land.
Author and director, François-Xavier DESTORS explores the issues of memory of mass crimes. His first feature-length documentary, Rwanda, the repair surface tells the colonial and contemporary history that led to the genocide in a different way. With Toxicily, he continues his exploration of the territories sacrificed to report on an ecocide at the gates of Europe.
