The 21st edition of the PriMed will be held in Marseille from 19 to 25 November. We thank all our partners who continue to accompany and support us. All public screenings are free.

EVENTS OF PriMed 2017 – The PDF program is available ► HERE

Nearly 30 hours of free screenings!
The PriMed offers to the public 6 days of free screenings.
The directors of the selected films are invited to Marseille to meet the public at the end of the projections. All films are screened in original language and / or subtitled in French.
On Saturday 25th November, at the end of the festival, the award-winning films are broadcasted again in the Alcazar Library between 11 am and 2 pm.

Audience award – Sunday 19 November, 3 pm, Mucem
The 21st edition of the PriMed starts with a special afternoon dedicated to the Audience Award. The 5 films of the category “Short mediterranean” are proposed to the vote of the spectators of the PriMed between 15h and 17h. At the end of the screenings, the public will be able to vote for their favorite short film at the entrance to the hall. The name of the winning director will be announced at the Awards Ceremony, on Friday, November 24 at 5:00 pm.

PriMed has been developing a program of education for Mediterranean citizenship through the image of the selected films. 2,500 young people from the Mediterranean will take part in the 21st PriMed through several actions.

Masterclass for teachers – Wednesday 22 November, 1 pm, Alcazar
For the first time, PriMed offers to the teachers a masterclass around the differences between documentary and reportage: how to apprehend these two genres, how to judge them?
Gilles PEREZ, a great reporter, war reporter, director and producer of documentaries, Producer at 13 Productions, will bring his experience. Winner of the 1st Bayeux Prize of the War Correspondents 2001 and of the Prix du Jeune Producer 2007, he has directed “In Search of Ingrid” (2003), “Always the First: Odyssey of OM” (2008), and “Looking for Rio” (2014). He won the Best Documentary Award from the French Syndicate of Film Critics in 2016 for the documentary series “Nous, ouvriers”.
The masterclass is hosted by Paule HERADES, Administrator of the CMCA, representative of Apimed (Association of Independent Producers of the Mediterranean).

PriMed hosts shooting of “Carnets de Mediterraneo” – Friday 24 November, Villa Méditerranée
The program of France 3 Corse ViaStella installs its cameras for the second consecutive year at PriMed. A special 52-minute program that will be shooted during the festival. Dedicated to the production of documentaries in the Mediterranean, it will be presented by Thierry PARDI , Editor in Chief of “Mediterraneo”. Mathieu GUIDÈRE </ em> and two Mediterranean filmmakers will be invited to debate.

Awards Ceremony – Friday 24 November 5pm, Villa Méditerranée
The directors of the 25 selected films are present to discover the complete awards list of the 21st PriMed.
The awards are presented by jury members, community representatives, and festival partners.
The ceremony is presented by Alexandra GALDON, journalist in Provence Azur. The music will be hosted by Radio Babel .

“Child Mother” is about the now elderly women who were born in Morocco or the Yemen, and forced to marry while still very young. Memories of a lost childhood. When they were only 5, 6 or 10 years old, their parents tore them from the playground and married them to older men. They remember the violence and fear they experienced, getting pregnant at the age of 11 or 12, and becoming mothers while they were still children.

 


Yael KIPPER was born in 1969 in Israel. She studied at Tel-Aviv’s Camera Obscura art school. For the past fifteen years she has been directing and producing documentaries, among them “A Talent for the Land” (2014), “Displaced” (2008), “Shining Stars” (2008), “The Last Fighters” (2006).

Ronen Zaretzky also studied at Tel-Aviv’s Camera Obscura art school. He is a senior editor of the newspaper Haaretz. He is also senior editor of the investigative programme Uvda, broadcast on Keshet TV / Channel 2. He is also a producer and director: among his most recent documentaries: “A Talent for the Land” (2014), “Super Women” (2013), “Displaced” (2008), “The Last Fighters” (2006).

The list of selected films for PriMed 2017 soon…

385 films from 40 countries were received by the CMCA, organizer of PriMed, one of the most important mediterranean festivals co-organized with France Télévisions, La Rai and ASBU (Union of Broadcasters of the Arab States).
The Selection Jury, which will be held from 6 to 9 June at the CMCA, will work on the selection of the films that will participate in the final phase of the 21st PriMed, from 19 to 25 November 2017.

The Mediterranean Sea remains at the heart of the public, director and producers of the whole world.

Our team is working to organize the preselection of the films. As usual a jury of selection will be soon in charge of choosing the works which will participate to the final phase of PriMed on 2017.

The PriMed is open to all film makers, television and production companies who, through their programmes or films, are part of the process of cultural exchange between countries of the Mediterranean basin in its widest sense, from the Atlantic to the Black Sea.
The works presented should be about the culture, heritage, history, societies and life of the men and women living in Mediterranean countries. They must not contain any form of advertising or propaganda. Each work can only be entered for one category, and the choice must be clearly indicated in the registration form.

– January/April2017 : call for submissions

– May 2017 : selection of films made by a international committee
– November / December 2017, finals of PriMed : the international jury will attribute the prizes, screenengs, professional and public meetings.

The PriMed, International Festival of Mediterranean Documentary film  and reportage is an international competition that takes place every year. It is designed for audiovisual productions in the specific area of documentary films, courrent affair  and investigations films dealing with issues of cultural  Mediterranean area from the Atlantic coast to the shores of the Black Sea.

The PriMed aims to promote and reward programs whose quality and creativity, both in content and in art forms, are remarcable. This event is open to all television organizations (public or private), production structures (public, private or associations), writers, directors, journalists and documentary filmmakers who, through their works and their programs, want to participate to a better understanding of the Mediterranean history, cultures and traditions.

The PriMed is finalized to promote mutual knowledge and professional exchanges. This Price is also an opportunity for an annual meeting between audiovisual professionals and it contributes to develop dialogue and cooperation between all countries of the Mediterranean.

The competition has three phases:
– January / February / March 2017 : call for films
– May 2017 : an international Selection Committee chooses the films which will be shown in the finals
– November / December 2017, finals of PriMed : the International Jury watches the films and decides the winners; public screenings; meetings; awards ceremony

The presented works:

  • must have been produced after January 1st, 2016;
  • must not have already been submitted to a previous edition of PriMed;
  • in the case of a documentary series or a film with more than one episode, only one episode can be submitted;
  • in the case of a co-production, the programme may only be entered into the competition by one of the producers, with prior agreement from the other partners. The name of all the co-producers must be included in the application form.

To enter the competition, the following material must be provided:

for all works, except for those of the category “Mediterranean Multimedia”

  • Two DVDs of the film, copied from the master, subtitled in French (priority), English or Italian

  • The application form

  • A synopsis of the work presented, maximum 10 lines, in French and English (by e-mail)

  • A biography of the director, maximum 10 lines, in French and English (by e-mail)

  • Some pictures of the work (sent via e-mail or on CD)

  • Any additional promotional material: photos, articles, press kit, etc… (optional)

for the works of the category “Mediterranean Multimedia”

  • The internet link where the work is presented (by e-mail: prix@cmca-med.org)

  • A presentation of the project, maximum 10 lines, in French and English (by e-mail), with the date of creation, the partners, the name and the presentation of the creators, some pictures.

  • The application form

  • Any additional promotional material: photos, articles, press kit, etc… (optional)

The winners of PriMed 2016

The 20th edition of PriMed is coming to the end. Thanks to the directors present and to the many spectators who participated in the exciting debates organized after the screenings. A total of 6000 spectators attended the screenings and the various events organized during this PriMed 2016.
This 20th edition was also placed under the sign of image education, with an new organization that allowed 2,500 high school students from the PACA region, Switzerland and the Mediterranean (Algeria, Egypt, Italy).
