In 1963 IM (Individuell Människohjlälp) a Swedish charity, set up a weaving centre in Vlasti, a mountainous village in Greece.
For 25 years this intercultural initiative has supported the women of a village suffering from wars, poverty and neglect.
“The Weavers” offers a bittersweet look at the development of rural Greece.

Dimitris KOUTSIABASAKOS was born in 1967. He studied film and television direction in Moscow at the VGIK (Gerasimov University of Cinematography).
He made a number of documentaries, series, shorts and features.
Among his latest films: “The Grocer” (2013, documentary, 81 and 52 minutes – Broadcaster’s Award France 3 Corse ViaStella at the 2015 PriMed – the Festival of the Mediterranean in images), “Becoming an actor” (2014, documentary, 61 minutes), “Silent Witness” (2016, documentary, 72 minutes) and “Yannis Kastritsis: the man and his shadow” (2017, documentary, 72 minutes).

BEHIND THE FENCE

“Behind the Fence” presents the first intifada as an important phase in the Palestinians’ struggle against Israeli occupation. It focuses on the failures and victories of those living in the Dheisheh refugee camp. They explain how their faith in liberation and their rejection of their miserable living conditions have helped them develop ways of dismantling the walls of the occupation.

Tamara ABU LABAN was born in the Dheisheh refugee camp near Bethlehem. She read media studies in Egypt and received a Masters in film at the Red Sea Institute of Cinematic Arts in Jordan. She created the project Women Make A Change, which is helping emancipate women through film and the media. She has also worked for Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabi TV channels.

MEDITERRANEAN YOUNG PEOPLE’S AWARD

Since 2018, the Mediterranean Center for Audiovisual Communication (CMCA), main organizer of the PriMed, has been extending its actions towards young people in the Mediterranean by traveling to various countries to collect their words about documentaries. The purpose of these actions is to support them in this analysis on the topics treated, to give them the possibility to explain their opinions and their ideas about Mediterranean societies.

Reserved for high school students, this event is centered around the film “We were called Beurettes“.
After the screening, high school students can express themselves and ask all their questions to the director of the film Bouchera AZZOUZ, and to the president of the jury, the historian Benjamin STORA.
The debate will be moderated by Daniel WOLFROMM, grand reporter to the editorial staff of France 2.

Six Awards are given to the films in competition:
Grand Prix “Mediterranean Challenges
“This prize is given to the best film (documentary or reportage) on a current Mediterranean subject, lasting more than 30 minutes. It picks out productions which improve our understanding of the present situation in the Mediterranean and rewards a director’s skill at questioning events and putting them into perspective, as well as his capacity to listen to the principal characters.
“Mediterranean Memories” Award
This prize rewards the documentary lasting more than 30 minutes, which – with or without archives – most successfully places in a present-day context historical events concerning the Mediterranean, stories of men and women, whether individual or collective, or places of symbolism and memory.”First Documentary Film” AwardThis award recognizes the talent of a film director who made no more than three films. Works produced as part of a school or training can also compete. Running time must exceed 30 minutes.
“Mediterranean Art, Heritage and Cultures”
AwardThis prize rewards the documentary film lasting more than 30 minutes, which highlights the region’s artistic life (music, plastic arts, live theatre, visual arts), its heritage (sites, monuments, works of art, archaeology, architecture) and other instances of Mediterranean culture (folklore and traditions).Mediterranean Young People AwardThis award is given by a jury of schoolboys from Sud Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region and from Euro-Mediterranean countries. It rewards one of the films chosen between a selection made by CMCA. “Mediterranean Short Doc” Award – Audience Award
This award is for a documentary or a reportage – lasting less than 30 minutes – whose subject is about Mediterranean area.
These awards are for the directors and authors of the work concerned.
Broadcasting Awards
In addition, broadcasting awards may be given by representatives of the television companies and are entirely at their discretion. They will be chosen from amongst any of the films in the final selection. The broadcast of any work thus rewarded has to be agreed individually between the broadcaster and the makers of the film. The same film cannot win more than two awards (except for the broadcasting award)

Selection Committee and International Jury.
The Selection Committee and the International Jury are made up of cinema and TV professionals (directors, producers, distributors), as well as specialists of the Mediterranean area.Their decisions are final. The Selection Committee is entitled to change a film from one category to another one. In any given year, a member of the Selection Committee cannot also sit on the International Jury.The decisions of the International Jury must be reached by a majority of members. If by the third vote a majority has not been reached, the president has the casting vote. The Jury cannot attribute ex aequo awards.

Conditions concerning the works presented

You must complete this form in its entirety with all the requested elements (in French (priority), or in English):
• A synopsis of the film, maximum 10 lines
•A biography of the director, maximum 10 lines
• A link to download the film file, French version or with subtitles in French (priority), in English or in Italian – Only accepted format: H264 / mp4 – File size max: 8 GB – Only downloadable file (Vimeo, WeTransfer, Google Drive, etc.). Films that cannot be downloaded, they will not be accepted.

THE 22th EDITION OF PriMed

NOVEMBER 25th > PUBLIC AWARD

Mucem-projections-primedLe PriMed 2018 opens, as every year, with the special afternoon dedicated to the Public Award on Sunday, November 25th, at the auditorium G. Tillon, Mucem. 6 movies of the category “Short Mediterranean” are proposed to the vote of the spectators of the PriMed between 3 pm and 17 h. At the end of the projections, the public will vote for his favorite short film. Free entry.

All the free sessions and will be organized from November 27th till December 1st in the Library(Bookcase) Alcazar in the meeting room and the auditorium. Projections followed by a debate with the directors.

NOVEMBER 30th > AWARD CEREMONY

CINEMA-LE-PRADO16h30, Cinéma le Prado. 34 directors of 25 selected movies will be present to discover the complete “palmarès” of the 22nd PriMed. The awards will be put presented by the members of the jury, the representatives of communities, and the partners of the festival. The ceremony will be presented by Priscilla REIG.
The musical animation will be proposed by Radio Babel

NOVEMBER 30th > PROJECTION / CONFERENCE

complet primedThe projection and debate of the 22nd PriMed is booked for a public of high school students. This year, she is centred around the movie: you will be Swedish, my daughter of Claire BILLET and Olivier JOBARD Ahmad and Jihane, a couple of Syrian refugees, tell to them latest, Sally, the history of their exile in Sweden.

YOUNG PEOPLE’S AWARD

PriMed develops for several years an educational program in the Mediterranean euro citizenship through the image. 3 500 young students of the Mediterranean Sea are going to take part in the 22nd edition of PriMed through several actions.
